Dole Korea, a fruit production and retail company, said Thursday it donated 52 million won ($34,900) to the Babonanumsharim Foundation to support youth aging out of the foster care system and college students from low-income households.
The donation is part of the "Sunshine For All" scholarship project that Dole Korea operates jointly with the Babonanumsharim Foundation. The company has supported youth transitioning out of state care and low-income college students in sustaining their studies and preparing for careers since 2015.
This year's "Sunshine For All" scholarship fund will support 19 recipients in total — 15 youth aging out of care and four college students from low-income households. Including this donation, cumulative contributions have reached 538.5 million won.
Dole Korea held a scholarship fund presentation ceremony at the Babonanumsharim Foundation's office on Wednesday, donating 52 million won.
"We will continue working with the Babonanumsharim Foundation so that young people do not have to give up on their potential due to financial hardship, and can take their first stable steps into society," said Ryu Mi-seon, director of human resources and general affairs at Dole Korea.
