Mega MGC Coffee said Tuesday it has sold 5 million units of its dessert "Butter Ga Jjondeukhae Tteok."
Launched in April, the rice cake — commonly called "butter tteok" — won over customers with its on-trend appeal and a relatively affordable price of 1,400 won. It became one of the fastest-selling items in Mega MGC Coffee's dessert lineup.
The company views the 5-million-unit milestone as a shared achievement with its franchisees and has decided to distribute about 50,000 butter tteok free of charge to franchise locations nationwide. The move aims to maximize franchisee profits and strengthen a sustainable partnership in which the company and its franchisees grow together.
The company also said it will extend the product's sales period through December in response to customer demand.
"The 5 million butter tteok sold is a precious result achieved together by our product planning team at headquarters and the franchisees who gave their best on the ground," a Mega MGC Coffee official said. "We will consistently introduce hit products that capture customers' hearts, while also developing wide-ranging support measures for our franchisees."
