Pulmuone Foods on Thursday launched two fresh mandu products designed to be cooked directly in their packaging in a microwave.
The company's proprietary tray allows steam generated during cooking to escape slowly through tiny holes in the packaging film, distributing heat evenly. A raised ridge on the bottom of the tray keeps the mandu wrapper from becoming soggy, and the design also addresses the surface drying that can occur when mandu is microwaved.
The products are ready in three minutes and 40 seconds in a 700-watt microwave. The tray doubles as a plate, so no separate dish is needed.
The two new varieties are "Pork and Cabbage," filled with meat juices and fresh vegetables including cabbage, onion and green onion, and "Gat Kimchi," made with 100 percent Dolsan gat from Yeosu.
The fresh mandu lineup uses the company's proprietary "instant steam method," which lightly cooks only the wrapper while keeping the filling fresh before freezing.
"We focused on preserving the taste and texture of fresh mandu even with the convenience of microwave cooking," a Pulmuone Foods official said.
